  • RIP Rarbg

I won’t go too deep into what it is/was but if you know it, you’ll know what a loss we’ve incurred. Here was the final sign off from them:

    Hello guys,
We would like to inform you that we have decided to shut down our site.
The past 2 years have been very difficult for us – some of the people in our team died due to covid complications,
others still suffer the side effects of it – not being able to work at all.
Some are also fighting the war in Europe – ON BOTH SIDES.
Also, the power price increase in data centers in Europe hit us pretty hard.
Inflation makes our daily expenses impossible to bare.
Therefore we can no longer run this site without massive expenses that we can no longer cover out of pocket.
After an unanimous vote we’ve decided that we can no longer do it.
    We are sorry 🙁
    Bye

Thank you guys for your time and effort and I wish you all the best!!!

  • Dishwasher Maintenance

Almost 10 years since the dishwasher was installed and it starts throwing errors. Honestly if everything were so dependable the world would be a better place. It simply need taken apart and cleaned, had some funky gunk that looked like label pieces from jars and such. Pretty gross but I got it all cleaned up and it seems to be working well. As the old saying goes, if the women can’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

  • Internet GDO Access

I’ve owned my house for 12 years now, it was just this year that I’ve procured keys to get in my front door. So the garage door is the main egress point of the house. We finally got around to putting in a Genie Access retrofit that allows an app on the phone to tell us if the doors are open or closed and be able to open them remotely. Also allows us to have friends/family to download the app and give them access to it. So we can give friends a garage door opener on the app. Cool!

  • Old Friends & New Faces

I got a chance to see my old friend Doug today! It’s been a good 20 years since our paths crossed and by chance, he was heading through DFW on his way to Baylor University in Waco to move his daughter to Boston to continue her studies at Harvard. The years haven’t been bad to us I’m happy to say, we’re a bit grayer, a bit wider but wiser and grateful that we’re still around.

Got a chance to show him the house, grabbed lunch at Bronco’s, and headed down to meet Megan and her SO. Amazing folks and it was great catching up for a couple of hours.

  • Best Part of Traveling…

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the best part of traveling is going back home. I’m sitting in the airport in Phoenix waiting for another hour and 15 minutes to board for the 2 hour 40 minute flight back to Dallas. Super excited to be heading home. This was the first time I had to go through customs in ages. Was fairly strait forward and no issues for me. Sandy on the other hand was being a complete asshole and decides she wants to bring fruit back from Mexico even after I had warned her about it. I mean there are always one or two idiots on the plane, I just happened to be sitting next to one this time. Put me in a shitty mood for the rest of the trip home. I really want to know why she did that, was the apple really worth pissing me off for a day? I guess to Sandy it was.

  • Another Record Falls

Normally one would think of vacations as relaxing affairs that soothe the mind, body, and soul. Mine don’t feel like that as there’s a bunch of walking, hiking, swimming, and such. As noted, I broke the step record on this trip too!

This one is for the most floors. I live in Texas, it’s flat, I mean really flat and there isn’t really anywhere I can go to walk up. I guess there is a stair machine at the rec center but you’d never catch me on it. To be blunt I hate stairs, or more specifically, I HATE the way my legs feel going up steps, super painful.

So today, Sandy and I conquered the trails around the resort, well the vertical ones anyways. Beautiful views and lots of stairs. My old record of 38 floors set on our fall 2022 vacation in Georgia on 9/20, this one if 50 floors. Long live this record!!!

  • Step Record Set Again

Yesterday I logged the highest recorded steps at 28,033. This surpasses the previous high mark of 27,110 set on June 18, 2022 which was Brittney’s wedding. So aside from Sandy being with me for the records being set, Mike and Shelly were there too!

Today has been a little more chillax than yesterday. I was also moving a bit slow and sorely from the record breaking walks yesterday. I’m really digging the breakfasts here, they’re buffet with bacon, sausage, potatoes and fruit. Normally I don’t do breakfasts but if it’s already paid for and there I’m on it.

  • City of Loreto

We booked a ride into the town of Loreto from the resort tonight. It was $20 per person which was a little steep but honestly town is like 45 minutes away so you figure $20 for 80 or 90 minutes which, once broken down, isn’t all that bad.

The city of Loreto is a quaint town by the sea, there is a waterfront strip that kind of reminds me of the dock up in Erie in that people just cruise up and down in their cars, motorcycles or 4 wheeler’s. There seemed to be a festival in place, now that I think of it maybe a lead up to cinco de mayo? There was a scary clown throwing candy at the kids that were gathered at the front of the stage, my dislike of clowns was exacerbated by the fact he was speaking in tongues, well Spanish but I can’t be sure it wasn’t something darker.

This is the first time in decades that I’ve traveled abroad and I’m always a bit leery to be out of my comfort zone and I’m deathly afraid of being seen as the ‘stupid entitled’ American tourist. So I keep my head low and always wear a smile. I try to put myself in their place, what would I feel like to see them come to my town? Be nice and respectful of their lives and culture. duck!

  • Kayaking – Sea of Cortez

Had a chance to go kayaking at the resort.

  • Not a bad Monday

So the little bits and pieces of python I’ve learned are paying off. Today I managed to create the first workable TCC export rendered from the custom dictionary. I’m using ElementTree and I’m not 100% sure what I’m doing but it’s reading and rendering the XML properly and that’s probably the best measure of success. So now I should be able to create the config files as they are rendered XML also. I think now I’ll work on rendering the SQL for DB/table creation, that may be a little rough hewn but should work for warehouse purposes.
