If you live in Texas you’ll know that the summer is hot, you’ll also know this year we’ve dodged a bullet because it was only yesterday we got our first 100 degree day. We’ve been blessed but nothing last forever and we’re sitting at 102 with a ‘feels like’ of 108. I took about 10 minutes and mowed half of the backyard. The mower is self propelled so it’s more like taking a walk than anything else but still pretty hot. I know, why do yard mowing now in the heat of the afternoon. While I don’t believe in doing actual work in this heat I think it’s bad not to embrace it just a bit. Yeah it’s hot but it just means you have to take the extra precautions, limit exposure and stay hydrated. All part of the summer in the south.

Crashing drives
Nothing to do with cars but I’ve got a failure on one of the drives that this site is on. It’s got 4 x 3TB SAS Western Digital drives hooked up to a Dell H310 PERC PCI controller in a Dell T30 server. So the T30 doesn’t come with a H310, not sure you can get that server with that RAID controller. But the issue here is the drive. I guess you get what you pay for an $50 a drive seemed to cheap to be true. So now I have to figure out what to do with storage.
Maybe I should just get another enclosure for the Synology NAS and support everything through there. Or See if the H310 will accept SATA, I mean I like the thought of SAS drives but let’s face it, they’re hard to find and expensive.

Packratting
As much as I don’t want to admit it I’m a bit of a pack rat. It comes from wanting to have things close at hand I believe. That and not wanting to have to reacquire said part/tool/whatever. This does however become an issue when it comes to things like computer cables. I finally have started trying to breakdown what everything is and classify and compartmentalize and store it. So for example, I collect all the USB type A to USB Micro cables, wrap them up individually and put them in a gallon storage bag. The contents of that bag and many others are on a spreadsheet, actually a google sheet and can be accessed from my phone, tablet and computer and the contents entered into the spreadsheet by voice recognition. While it does take some time with the computer component aspect, it works great, but now I have a gallon storage bag with 10 cell phone charger cables… And I’ve just started. So how many is enough? Don’t know but I’ve become very liberal about disposing of ones I’ve come across that annoy me by not having a good click when I connect them. Progress is slow but sure, as long as my cataloging exceeds the input of new objects, we’re heading in the right direction.

Bad at blogging
So since the last time I posted, I’ve been to Arkansas and Missouri camping, finished a class, and have made great strides on the organizational changes at the house and am weathering a concerning work environment that we’re watching closely.
And I guess I didn’t have anything to say about it. Ugh, I’m such a procrastinator. Oh well the future is in front of us and we can’t do anything about the past. I’ll work on doing better.
To that end it’s Monday morning at 0749 and I’ve been awake since 4:30ish, drank a 20oz red bull and walked 4300 steps. Already two emails from work taken care of which unfortunately may be the extent of my work day. But I’m going to keep things moving forward as best I can and be thankful for where I’m at and what I’ve got. I’m blessed, just need to get it through my thick skull:)

Watched – Cruella
I wasn’t thrilled that the movie was 2 hours and 14 minutes. My ADHD kicks in after 2 hours. But this movie was great! Well acted, super plot that twists wonderfully and a soundtrack that is amazing. Could definitely watch again! 4.5 out of 5 stars, well worth your time.

Watched – Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead
I like this movie, released in 2007 with Phillip Hoffman and Ethan Hawke. Drama about two sons who plot the robbery of their parents jewelry store. Everything goes horribly, horribly wrong. Extremely well acted with a twisting plot that keeps things interesting, Well worth seeing, I’m giving it a 4 out of 5.

Dental adventures
So I’m not sure how long it’s been but it’s been a long minute. I really believe that you have to pay the dental pain no matter what. I mean if you go like you’re supposed to, no big deal, cleanings are standard and not ‘deep’ and it’s relatively painless. You don’t go for years, it’s not simple and the pain is excruciating. Oh well the right side is deep cleaned and the left is scheduled along with some cavity fills for next Tuesday. So my goal of hitting the big five oh with everything fixed and tightened up is going well. #FitAt50

Memorial Day 2021
I deeply appreciate the sacrifices that were given by those who fought for our freedoms. I regret that I was not able to be of service to my country in whatever capacity they would have needed me. I tried but the cyst on my wrist caused them to take a pass on me. Kind of a sour grapes situation for me but I’m trying to be content in the higher plan of the path that I’m on, whatever that may be.
While the weekend was kind of a washout for Sunday and Monday, we did get to spend Saturday being social and visiting. Started off at Phillip and Michelle’s to see the new pool and catch up. They quit smoking a couple of years ago on Chantix so I was able to thank them for the insight and share my success. Got to see David and Keli along with Ronda, Age and Hanna and Colter. It was good to catch up with everyone.
Then we stopped by to see one of my favorite vets Tim over at his shop. Got a chance to see how TJ pulled apart his truck for cleaning and I’m going to do the same thing this fall with the Chevy.

Watched – Nobody
This is probably the feel good movie of the year. A light hearted John Wick crosses RED you will. Bob Odenkirk plays Hutch Mansell, retired three letter agency guy who, despite having left the job behind, still can’t leave the life. It’s a little slow to get going but picks up steam fairly quickly. Great performance by the consummate actor Christopher Lloyd as Hutch’s dad. All told much better than any of it’s contemporaries out today and I’ll give it 4.25 out of 5. Would definitely recommend.

Thoughts on Chantix
So Chantix has a list of side effects a mile long and comes with some serious warnings, and for good reason. I found myself obsessing about things that bothered me to the point where I would wake up and couldn’t get back to sleep because of mean thoughts running through my head. Not disturbing or anything, just focusing on things that make you mad. It caused some serious sleep issues, falling asleep in the day, not sleeping at night. I of course stopped the medication after about three weeks after check with my doctor. To those that follow me in taking it, I would recommend trying to get off of it after two weeks, the first week you’re smoking as it builds up in your system, the second week it’s fighting the urges for you, week three if you absolutely need it but I found it plays so much with your head you really don’t have time to think about smoking. You should be close to back to normal in about 3 days with the drug completely out of your system in 6.
