  • Server Woes

I’ll post the details on the tech blog but I’m having all kinds of issues with my server and I’m not happy about it. After an update, I get a BIOS is broken error and I can’t keep up with updates. I’m a bit pissed off about it as I think I got a call from my Dell rep a month or so ago and now I’m thinking that he knew that my server was about to bomb and didn’t warn me but just tried to sell me new hardware.

I broke down and spent $1500 on a refurb server. Supposedly a Dell T430 with dual Xeon processors (16 core), 8 bay with a 710 RAID controller and 256 Gb RAM. It even has dual power supplies, 2 gig NIC’s and a DRAC card. It also comes with 8 x 4TB SAS drives but I think I’ve learned my lesson with those, I’ll have to get some new drives or repurpose my others.

I hate buying refurbished but servers last about 10 years even if mine didn’t but that’s because it’s the bare bones entry level server.

It should be in in a couple of weeks so we’ll see how it turns out.

  • Lots Done

It was an eventful day. The floor is done!!! After a 2.5 week delay due to the appendix, it’s finally done.

I also got the baseboards painted, but it was the wrong color. I sent Sandy to the paint store to pick up paint and got the wrong paint, so $80 down the drain and I wasted two hours painting the baseboards with the wrong paint.

I got the backyard mowed and I made all my health goals for the day which I haven’t made in 2 weeks.

The Cowboy’s lost again but that’s just like saying Sunday came after Saturday so no news there. I can’t complain, life’s been good to me, I’m just sullen by nature…

  • Trip Up North

We were heading up to David’s this morning and I got into the truck and for the first time since I’ve had it, it wouldn’t start. The batteries seem to be dead, I tried jumping in and nothing. I put the charger on it and we switched to the Xterra and headed up to Valley View.

We were just pulling into David’s road and they were going the other way, we turned around and caught up with them and off to lunch we went. A little place in downtown Valley View, I didn’t catch the name but there was a cute little blond waitress and they had good burgers and fried food.

Got back to David’s and I worked about 20 minutes and I was hurting. We weren’t there too much longer, we got home and just chilled. I think tomorrow I’m going to attach the last part of the floor in the back. There’s going to be football on and I can power though it. Hopefully. More to come on that point.

  • End of Week

I’m still not feeling 100% this week. Well I guess I shouldn’t be thinking that I would be at full speed but I’m surprised how much I’m still hurting. I guess I’ve just got to take it easy until I’m better.

It was a nice day, rainy and cloudy, we don’t get nearly enough of those. And you have to love Friday’s. I’m getting frustrated at work with the Oracle support dumbass telling me to optimize a query for a system that won’t even be around in 6 months. I mean I understand where he’s coming from but you don’t spend time rewriting code for something that’s being decommissioned. Oh well, more to do on Monday. Just need to get my hours done this weekend.

  • News Detox

As you know I’m not thrilled about what’s going on in this country. In my opinion it’s over but it’ll take a while for everything to go to hell and a hand basket. Here’s the long and short of it. I don’t care anymore. I’m done, I care only about my wants and that’s to have some property in the middle of nowhere and enjoy nature. In order to do this, I need a job. I’m going to work remotely and make enough to buy the property and build on it. I’m currently doing a contract gig but I think it’s time to figure out what the next full time gig is. I need to work on that.

In any case I’m done with news, it doesn’t impact me. Actually it probably does BUT is there anything I can do about it? No and that means there’s nothing I should worry about as I can’t do anything about it. God, grant me the serenity!!!

  • Post-Surgical Follow-Up

I had my follow up today and everything checks out. I have one more on Wednesday with the PCP and I believe this should be behind us. I’m still a little sore at the incision site but other than that I’m good. They set me up with enough pain meds that it’ll be two-weeks post surgery so I should be golden by then.

I still have not received a bill for this fiasco, it’s probably still going to be awhile. Oddly enough this year I happen to have ‘golden’ insurance and it happens to be the first time I’ve needed it in the forever I’ve paid in but not used. We’ll see how it works out.

  • Extra Hour

This is the weekend that we set the clocks back. I think we need to figure out how to get an extra hour in every weekend. I got everything I really wanted to get done today and still and still have some time to kill. I like that.

Got to watch the LoserBoys play in SuckVille today, Where they really sucked and left with a record of 3 wins and 5 losses on the season. Crazy how bad they are.

Tomorrow I have a follow up to hopefully remove the drain that’s still in place from the appendectomy, that will get me a long way to feeling normal.

  • Frozen Blueberry’s

In my on-going quest for better nutrition, I’m trying to get more fruits and vegetables but fresh isn’t always an option. Take the humble blueberry. Tasty, good for you but seasonal. But I can get a big bag of great value frozen blueberry’s and for the most part they’re not bad. Ideally thaw them in the fridge but in a pinch you can thaw in water and drain.

This makes the packet blueberry muffin’s into something fairly special and quite yummy. They also make pancakes tolerable with the fruitiness.

I’m going to check out some of the of the other offerings also, they include:
    Frozen Strawberries
    Frozen Blueberries
    Frozen Pineapple
    Frozen Bananas
    Frozen Mango
    Frozen Raspberries
    Frozen Cherries
    Frozen Blackberries

This could be a boon for the homemade yogurt idea and that’s on the good list too.

  • TGIF Again

We made it to Friday and while I’m still on the mend, I’m hurting a bit. Hopefully a weekend of rest and removal of this tube means I can get a real shower and feel human again. This clean top/bottom half separately is not fun. But I guess I’m not doing bad considering where I could be.

Sandy and I went out to Babe’s for lunch today, it was $20 apiece but it was good, I had the chicken friend steak and it really hit the spot. Loved the mashed potatoes but Sandy thought that they tasted too starchy. It was yummy in my honest opinion.

It was nice and cool today, but I was stuck inside. Still nice that fall temperatures are making a showing.

  • Pre-Friday & Work is Work

I slept most of yesterday evening and night, I was out. But it’s ok, I needed to heal. I did get work done and ran into issues, I’m working on what’s actually going on but I had to sigh, this was a query that’s been used dozens of times and now it’s just causing the system to spin, it wasn’t always like this, I remember it actually worked at one time. Although it does make me happy that this won’t be what I’m doing for next year. I do need to figure that out though…

It’s Halloween and I’m not sharing my candy with kids. So I took one of the workhorses and blocked off the porch, they got the hint and we’ve had no knocks.

Mom came over for lunch today, it was nice to see her and she brought tacos and I had grape soda, yummy and probably the most I’ve eaten since the surgery. I think that I’m on the road to recovery but my digestive system is still untrusted to say the least. We’ll see how those tacos run though and I have broccoli and blueberries queued up for tomorrow. Hopefully good fiber…
