  • Interview(s) Complete

So as I’m waiting for the interview from the CA place, I get a call from a recruiter that contacted me a month ago about my TCC expertise, now he wants to submit me for a position. Oh well when it rains it pours. I had the interview that was planned and it seems like it’s more of an admin assistant position. I blew through it because, it turned out it didn’t really have anything to do with data analytics. Oh well, we’ll see what happens next week, this weekend I’ll just enjoy life and let tomorrow take care of itself.

  • Interview Tomorrow

I have a job interview tomorrow for a position as a data analyst! I’m kind of excited about this as it seems like a good fit for me. The primary tech is Postgre SQL, SQL, Tableau and Python all of which I know well so the learning curve is sort of flattened with those. Microsoft Office which I know like the back of my hand and a handful of other accounting and time tracking software which I’m sure I can master in short order.

The only issue is that they appear to use Apple hardware for workstations… They’re based out of CA so I guess that’s not out of the ordinary but I’m not sure how well Apple works with the data wrangling that I’m used to doing. But I can learn:)

  • Sad Day Times 2

It’s getting warm here in Texas. Sandy and I did our grocery shopping today, went to Kroger and shopped the sales and then to Walmart for staples like milk, cheese and lunch meat.

We came home and decided to jump on the bikes and head over to the mall to get steps, people watch and grab a bite for lunch. We walked the mall and found ourselves in the food court having Chic-fil-A. I was checking out Facebook and we were stunned to see we lost a classmate. Wendy (Dittman) Lipinski died of a brain tumor at 51. While I didn’t know her, I’d been in classes with her and my memory of her is that she was very quite. A nice person who I didn’t really know, and reading her obituary made me sad that I didn’t know her better.

While Sandy and I were reading the comments, it was revealed another friend from high school in our class had also passed. Kelly (Farley) Games just passed yesterday, it’s still too early for that obituary. That one struck closer to home as Kelly and I had actually talked (messaged) recently enough and I knew her. She celebrated her only sons 20th birthday just last week at Red Lobster. She’d been married to Mike for just over 3 years. She’d recently been diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time and just started chemo 4 days ago after a battle with her insurance to get started on it. She had said the side effects didn’t kick in until day 3 and she was in a lot of pain.

Sandy and I came home kind of stunned and then held each other while we both cried. There was a horrible realization that life is finite and that it ends without much warning.

  • Tiller Drained

I drained the gas out of the tiller since I believe we’re done with it for the season. It was a beautiful day and Sandy and I went for a 12 mile bike ride around Hurst. I’ve decided I’m going to take my picture in front of all the parks in the city. So I got 3 of the parks knocked out.

Tomorrow is the eclipse and unfortunately it looks to be cloudy, but it’s nothing I’m going to lose sleep over. We’ll see how it goes.

  • Successful Bread!!!

If you’ve been following the adventures in bread baking, you’ll know it’s been a pretty abject failure all around, even the bread maker has only raised my bread baking game to sub-standard. I’m happy to announce we’ve had success.

This was in furtherance of making sub rolls and using the bread machine recipe for dough. The written recipe calls for 470g of AP flour but it’s close enough. As for the baking, it was at 375 for 16 to 24 minutes but we did right at 20 and it came out great. Hopefully we can adjust the baking process to make the rolls properly but this is great progress.

  • Sand Burr Pre-Emergent Applied

I saw some sand burr plants in the grass so I re-applied the pre-emergent although I think that I used less water than I should have, evidently there are 8 pint to a gallon not 16, oh well, still did the right area so it should be fine.

  • Recalls Complete

While I love my truck, the closest Ram dealership leaves a bunch to be desired. I finally got hold of them and they actually had the parts in stock to fix the last two of four recalls that were left. So I’m completely up to date.

It was kind of cool in that they took a video of everything and the only thing that needed done was some stuff like brake/steering fluid drain/flush and an alignment. All things that can wait for the new job to kick in.

  • Yard Done, House Back Together

Finally got the last stuff back into the master bedroom and got the gun safe cleaned out to boot. We left out one chest of drawers and didn’t put the refrigerator back in the bedroom. I just didn’t see the need for it anymore I guess. We may decommission it and store it for another time.

I got the yard done as it rained this evening, it looks really nice when it’s cut and everything is so green. The truck goes in for service tomorrow, should knock out the last two recalls that were pending from the manufacturer.

I sat on the front porch and watched as the storms came in, lots of lightning. It was nice. It doesn’t rain enough down here so enjoy it while I can. I did remember I have a leak in the kitchen roof, grrr. Add it to the list.

  • Blower/Vac Upgrade

As I’ve grown older, I get particular about my yard tools. As much as I’d like a motorized jet backpack like my neighbor, with the small property I have, I’ll stick with the electric. And not the wireless, with my fathers passing I have about half a mile of extension cords so give me a motor. No gas engine for this, I’ve already got half a dozen small gas engines (not withstanding vehicles) that I have to deal with and although I’ve recently become proficient in repairing them, I don’t need another.

I needed to replace my Portland (Harbor Freight) blower/vac as it finally bit the dust after like 5 years. Well worth it and was going to head over and pick it up but while Sandy and I were at Walmart, she pointed out the Hyper Tough blower/vac at Walmart. $6 more but worth it?

The answer is emphatically yes. I looked up the specs and the Hyper Tough (HT) is 400 CFM vs 375 CFM for the Portland. 2 year warranty vs 1 year respectively but most importantly the HT has a metal impeller so the mulching is much better and it’s pretty potent as a blower and vacuum. I don’t know if it’ll give me 5 years of residential service but I’m impressed so far.

  • More Painting

Got up this morning and hit the gym at 5:30am so by 6:20am I had all my circles closed. Came back home and fell asleep until 9:30, when Sandy got home from her running around it was on and we hit the paint. Today I ran the roller and got all 4 walls done and, considering the work done Sunday, we’ve only got one wall to put the second coat on tomorrow and it should be done.

I wasn’t too keen on painting today, we seem to do everything half-assed, liked we should have completely cleaned out the room, patched, sanded, taped, painted, touched up and base boards and then everything back. But we didn’t.

At least it’s coming to a conclusion.
