  • Watched – Prometheus

Since I was a kid an curled up on the couch with dad watching Alien I’ve always loved the series, well mostly loved the series. Okay, I really liked the beginning of the series (read: first two movies) it seemed to go downhill from there. In this prequel we see a journey to find the alien ‘engineers’ in the 2090’s based on maps found in ancient earth caves throughout the world. A bit hard to swallow but okay.

Then they get there and decide to go exploring first thing, I was a bit shocked at how easily these folks remove their helmets, but they do. A storm comes, people get separated and general carnage ensues. While it sort of may look like a setup to Aliens there seems to be something missing, it doesn’t seem to set it up correctly. And I find the Fassbender extremely annoying but maybe that’s me. I’ll give it 2.5 out of 5 because I’m feeling generous.

  • Rainy Monday

The weather was cold and rainy today, which is honestly perfect for a Monday. So I got some work done and actually went for two walks today and made my steps. 8 days without a cigarette and I’m feeling pretty good about everything. The only hard times are first thing in the morning and after meals, still a twinge now and then but nothing I can’t handle.
So when Shelly was here for Cinco De Mayo, we made tacos, I swear taco meat is greatness, reheats wonderfully and can be used in tacos, burritos, salads, or in the case of tonight’s entree, taco baked potatoes (yes there’s a potato under there) yum!!!

  • Happy Mothers Day!

I think we all think we have the best mom, why wouldn’t we, deep down I think each of us individually has the best mom because let’s face it, no one will love us more than our moms. The true definition of unconditional love.
My one true hope is that I’ve made up for all the hurt and concern my actions have caused. The path that god has me on was to finish strong after a shaky start, sorry about that mom:)

  • Ode to the furry ones:)

I was worried about taking on the responsibility of cats back in 2018, and they are a bit of work but I wouldn’t change it for the world, this must be what it’s like to have kids:)

  • Pavers Up

Thanks to Sandy and Shelly for the assistance, the pavers that served as a makeshift work area for the shed construction have been picked up and stacked into two huge stacks. Now the grass can start to regrow. This marks the end of one project and ready for the next.

  • May the 4th be with you!!!

I know it’s cheesy but it’s May the 4th. So Sandy gets back into town today and I head to the airport to pick her up with an 8th of a tank of gas and as soon as I get to the airport the damn gas light comes on. UGH, that’s the second time I’ve gone to pick her up and almost run out of gas. Oh well.

The new headlights for the Xterra came in today. I’m really pissed that the ones I bought last year don’t work and am pretty sure I won’t be using NewEgg.com for anything anymore. That’s where I got the last headlights. Spec-D Tuning for 2002-2012 Nissan Xterra Chrome Led Projector Headlights were the name on them so I remember not to even look at them again. It’ll be good to have Sandy home, although she’s taking off for PA on Thursday.

  • Sandy’s Birthday, day 2 as an ex-smoker

Sandy turns 49 today, she’s in Mexico so I guess I’m not celebrating it with her.

I’m now 27 hours tobacco free!!! And I’ve actually figured out how to use the vaporizer I bought 2 years ago with Austin at the CBD store in CO. I’ve still got the blueberry ‘juice’ from two years ago too, which really has me wondering if CBD oil has an expiration date… Oh well, it’s helping with the need to inhale something and it contains no nicotine with the added benefit that it doesn’t stink the place up so I can do it inside. Although that kind of defeats the purpose of that mental ‘break’ that smoking seemed to fill. In any case I’m still thrilled at the prospect of being an ex-smoker and am keeping that positive attitude going, once again not doing something could be the best thing I’ve done in awhile.

  • 3, 2, 1 and then there were none…

So it’s today, about 7 and a half hours ago I became a non-smoker. I’ve been awake about an hour and used the CBD vape to handle the habit of going to the garage first thing in the morning. Still a bit of desire but this whole quitting thing is about mindset. I’m not giving up something I enjoyed, I’m giving myself freedom, I’m giving myself health, and most important, I’m giving myself time and with Gods grace I won’t die a miserable death in a hospital bed gasping for breath with a tube down my throat.

  • Queso – AKA Velveeta Cheese Sauce

I’ve always loved Velveeta cheese sauce and have always been meaning to put down a recipe that I can go to when in need so here it is. It’s a bit more viscus when it comes out of the microwave but it thickens as it cools and sets up perfectly for reheating.

    • 8oz Velveeta Processed Cheese
    • 4oz Milk (preferably whole)
    • 1 tbs butter

Add everything to a microwave safe bowl and nuke on 70% for 3 minutes stirring on the minute. Here’s the dip with corn dogs and Doritos.

  • River Oaks has grown

As Sandy is out of town I was looking for a reason to get out of the house so I met up with Adrian, Rhonda, Hanna and Colter to help Hanna get the rest of the stuff out of her apartment and into the new rental house. After getting completely lost looking for the apartment, we were going to Heim’s BBQ in River Oaks. It’s been a minute since I’ve drive White Settlement to Roberts Cut Off and my jaw was dropped, there are 4 story apartments along the Trinity for almost a mile. The house I grew up in is listed on Zillow for 192k. It’s good to see the revival but I can’t believe how much things are costing over there.
