  • May the 4th be with you!!!

I know it’s cheesy but it’s May the 4th. So Sandy gets back into town today and I head to the airport to pick her up with an 8th of a tank of gas and as soon as I get to the airport the damn gas light comes on. UGH, that’s the second time I’ve gone to pick her up and almost run out of gas. Oh well.

The new headlights for the Xterra came in today. I’m really pissed that the ones I bought last year don’t work and am pretty sure I won’t be using NewEgg.com for anything anymore. That’s where I got the last headlights. Spec-D Tuning for 2002-2012 Nissan Xterra Chrome Led Projector Headlights were the name on them so I remember not to even look at them again. It’ll be good to have Sandy home, although she’s taking off for PA on Thursday.

  • Sandy’s Birthday, day 2 as an ex-smoker

Sandy turns 49 today, she’s in Mexico so I guess I’m not celebrating it with her.

I’m now 27 hours tobacco free!!! And I’ve actually figured out how to use the vaporizer I bought 2 years ago with Austin at the CBD store in CO. I’ve still got the blueberry ‘juice’ from two years ago too, which really has me wondering if CBD oil has an expiration date… Oh well, it’s helping with the need to inhale something and it contains no nicotine with the added benefit that it doesn’t stink the place up so I can do it inside. Although that kind of defeats the purpose of that mental ‘break’ that smoking seemed to fill. In any case I’m still thrilled at the prospect of being an ex-smoker and am keeping that positive attitude going, once again not doing something could be the best thing I’ve done in awhile.

  • 3, 2, 1 and then there were none…

So it’s today, about 7 and a half hours ago I became a non-smoker. I’ve been awake about an hour and used the CBD vape to handle the habit of going to the garage first thing in the morning. Still a bit of desire but this whole quitting thing is about mindset. I’m not giving up something I enjoyed, I’m giving myself freedom, I’m giving myself health, and most important, I’m giving myself time and with Gods grace I won’t die a miserable death in a hospital bed gasping for breath with a tube down my throat.

  • Queso – AKA Velveeta Cheese Sauce

I’ve always loved Velveeta cheese sauce and have always been meaning to put down a recipe that I can go to when in need so here it is. It’s a bit more viscus when it comes out of the microwave but it thickens as it cools and sets up perfectly for reheating.

    • 8oz Velveeta Processed Cheese
    • 4oz Milk (preferably whole)
    • 1 tbs butter

Add everything to a microwave safe bowl and nuke on 70% for 3 minutes stirring on the minute. Here’s the dip with corn dogs and Doritos.

  • River Oaks has grown

As Sandy is out of town I was looking for a reason to get out of the house so I met up with Adrian, Rhonda, Hanna and Colter to help Hanna get the rest of the stuff out of her apartment and into the new rental house. After getting completely lost looking for the apartment, we were going to Heim’s BBQ in River Oaks. It’s been a minute since I’ve drive White Settlement to Roberts Cut Off and my jaw was dropped, there are 4 story apartments along the Trinity for almost a mile. The house I grew up in is listed on Zillow for 192k. It’s good to see the revival but I can’t believe how much things are costing over there.

  • Monitor Acquisition Solved

So Sandy and I share prime but my sister has her own, got her to order a couple more monitors for me so I got my 4 $180 monitors for $119, I’m happy.

I’ve finished up the documentation on a project that has been in overtime for about 2 quarters now, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

I had a Charlie horse last night that had me screaming:( That was not fun. I’m not sure what that was all about but I move a butt load of pavers yesterday, I guess I’m getting too old for manual labor… Here’s what’s being accomplished.

  • Amazon still sells books!

I actually got an Amazon order that contained only books today, it’s hard to believe that they actually started as an online book store. Right now I’m a little miffed at Jeff and his crew, I need four monitors for my Linux box and they have the ones I wanted but will only sell me two at $119. I guess I can see why because that’s got to be a loss for them but still, it’s quite annoying. As for the books, three are investment books so hopefully that will become a revenue stream instead of a constant source of worry. And they other one for my attitude. It’s called ‘The subtle are of not giving a f*ck”. Hum, it was recommended to me and we’ll see…

  • Moving Bricks

So there are pictures here and there about the pavers that were laid out to provide a work area for building the shed. Well now it’s time to pick them back up so I can run the skid steer through without turning them into rubble. There was probably a better way to do this but I’m paying for it, the way my wrists have been hurting isn’t a good thing. But slowly but surely it’ll get done.

  • Quitting Smoking

I’ve been smoking longer than I care to remember and it’s time to quit. I’ve got a script for Chantix and should be starting today or tomorrow. To this end I’m introducing a new blog category simply titled Health. The first post will be about quitting smoking and then getting into shape. Here’s to a long tobacco free life!!!

  • Making Progress

As thrilled as I was at the shed being ‘completely done’ the glory was, sadly, short lived. It began to dawn on me how much work laid ahead to actually make use of the shed. Cleaning off and cleaning and moving the shelving and everything on it from the garage is a daunting task. Made more cumbersome by the fact that I’m not allowing anything in the shed that hasn’t been thoroughly cleaned. The things that were in the old shed didn’t fare extremely well with a coating of dust on pretty much everything and even some damaging rust to the shelving units in there. But a wire cup brush on the power drill and some spray paint and they’re almost as good as new. The press-board shelves that have all but fallen apart have been replace by scrap T1-11 cut to size for a durable and heavy duty shelf. Slowly but surely it’s taking shape.
